Mrs. Herlinda Minor, Principal

Mrs. Herlinda Minor is proud to join the phenomenal team at Newport Elementary School, serving the young scholars in our district. She has been a proud Crosby Cougar for the past 11 years. Her teaching career began in 2010, teaching Kindergarten and being named HISD ACP Teacher Nominee of the Year. Since then, she has taught grades first and second, worked as an elementary math interventionist for grades 1-5 and was a math instructional coach. She then served as assistant principal for four years. She was named Teacher of the Year for Crosby Elementary School in 2013.
 

Mrs. Minor received her bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Communications from the University of Houston-Downtown. She then earned her master's in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of St. Thomas. She was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi (Education Honor Society) and graduated Cum Laude.

Serving the Crosby community is an honor and Mrs. Minor is committed to providing our students with a strong foundation to become lifelong learners.

Ms. Callis, Assistant Principal NES

Ms. Ashley Callis , Assistant Principal

Hi! My name is Ashley Callis, and I am the Assistant Principal of Newport Elementary.

I bring 17 years of experience in education, having served as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to teach kindergarten, 4th grade, and 8th grade in Aldine ISD and Sheldon ISD. I also served as an instructional coach in Channelview ISD and most recently as an assistant principal in Aldine ISD.

I am thrilled to now be part of the Crosby ISD and the Newport Elementary family!

Born and raised in the Humble area, I am a proud graduate of Aldine ISD. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Education from Sam Houston State University and my master’s degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University.

I am passionate about supporting students on their journey to becoming lifelong learners, and I am committed to helping every child grow, succeed, and thrive.
